Walter is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a desire to help and partner with a wide range of people from all walks of life. He earned a B.S. in psychology from Presbyterian College and a M.A. in professional counseling from Richmont Graduate University.
Walter enjoys working with everyone and regularly works with teenagers through adult-aged clients. Before coming to GCA, he worked in ministry, residential, and pediatric settings and has a wide range of experience with anxiety, depression, life transitions, career coaching, and managing work/life balance in a ministry or non-profit setting. He also has additional training and experience in pre-marital and marital/family counseling, and has completed Level 2 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Walter regularly works from a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. As a Christian who is also a professional counselor, he can integrate principles of faith as much or as little as the client requests or finds helpful.
He and his wife live with their two dogs in Travelers Rest, where they love being close to the mountains, while also being able to hop on the Swamp Rabbit Trail for a run or bike ride. Walter still considers himself a “former college athlete”, although these days that mainly looks like watching his beloved Liverpool “Football” Club.
His advice to people who are weighing the pros and cons of beginning counseling would be the same advice his graduate professor gave him the first week of grad school: “trust the process. Give it a few weeks and see what God does with it.”
